- This is a structured parent/child class. The class is designed to introduce the child to the water and become comfortable through various guided practices such as blowing bubbles, back floating, kicking and more. Parents and children will participate in singing and play time that will help the child get comfortable in the water and learn the foundational skills for swimming. The emphasis will be on water acclimation and exploration through interactive play.
- Students will become comfortable in the water and gain confidence in the pool learning skills such as putting their face in the water. Students will be introduced to the proper arm movements for freestyle and backstroke. Proper kicking techniques will also be emphasized. At this level swimmers will master the sill of putting their face in the water. Learning safety rules will also be part of the routine lesson.
- Students in this level will learn to master floating. Proper arm movements for freestyle and backstroke will be reintroduced as well as kicking. Safety rules for swimming and jumping will be reinforced at this level. Students will master the skill of floating before moving on to the next level.
- The main focus of this class will be on taking the skills learned in both Levels 1 & 2 and building a strong foundation at this level. Students will learn to put all the skills together in order to perform a proper freestyle stroke with rotary breathing as well.
- Swimmers will be introduced to additional strokes such as breaststroke and butterfly. Swimmers will continue to work on the strokes learned in Level 3. Students will also build endurance through increasing the distance of swimming the entire length of the pool during the lesson.
- Students in this level will continue to refine their strokes and continue to gain endurance through swimming the entire lengths of the pool. Flip turns will also be introduced in the lessons.
- Students in this level will continue to refine all four strokes and continue to gain more endurance. Participants in this level may keep working towards gaining enough endurance to join the Athol Swim Team if they wish.
